Latvian tennis star, former Top 5 player Jelena Ostapenko, celebrated a difficult 7-5 victory over Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia, making it to the Upper Austria Ladies Linz final against teenage sensation Coco Guff on Sunday. Ostapenko had to come back from the brink of defeat to reach her first WTA singles final of 2019, as the 2017 Roland Garros champion saved three match points en route to a 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-5 victory, WTA Tennis reports.

Low-cost airline Transavia belonging to the Air France-KLM group will start its service from Riga Airport the next summer season, offering two weekly flights between Riga and Paris (Orly Airport). Transavia will fly from Riga to Orly twice a week – on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The service from Riga will be launched on 29 March 2020.

A new Business and Innovation Park Mežgarciems is being developed in Latvia, only 25 km from the capital Riga. The territory includes 11 building plots and eight of them will be auctioned by the Carnikava Municipality in October, Mezgarciems representatives informed BC. The construction of infrastructure and necessary communications in the territory is planned to be completed before 2020.

September 16 sees registration open for the Rīga Marathon, for what is being described as the which “30th anniversary season” with the first Rīga marathon taking place in 1991, according to organizers. A stand will be in operation in the shadow of the Freedom Monument in central Rīga giving potential runners an opportunity to sign up and choose their number.
